The Rat Pack Devours.
Reviewing the end
as your life is lived
have you done what you liked, what you dreamed?
only the orange-tinted sky and the grounded massive earth
know what you are
is that reassuring?
as you stand in front of these
the rat-pack of people whom you have seen so often
and watch them devour your soul
have you no regrets?
when the shadowed, mirky sea swallows you,
do you wish you'd done something different, all those years ago?
and do you follow, all unwilling, in the footsteps
of others whom you've never met
and hope for something to stop the neverending voyage?
hope fails,
and the shadows under the trees wait
and you know
that there is no escape
now that you have left the safety of the sun
sunset draws near and you are lost
lost to them
the stars turn their backs
and the moon hides her face
the earth turns beneath you and falls into oblivion
only the shadows are watchful
reviewing the end,

i'm in a bit of a contemplative mood tonight, hence the blogging, despite being as pissed off as it's possible to be at facebook's photo uploader on whose account i had to restart the computer once, log off twice, and upload about 25 pictures 5 at a time. argh. waste of time.
anyhow. i suspect the mood is due to either listening to anberlin - who i find very calming and thoughtful - or a serious lack of sleep: and possibly it's due to a combination of both. anyhow.
so, as i said, i've recently been listening to anberlin; and i've tried the goo goo dolls recently too - i'm not sure if i'm a fan of them yet, i have so many of their songs and i don't know the songs at all besides iris, so it's hard to tell if i like them or not.
anberlin i like though. thanks go out to cory isaak for being a fan and pointing me in their direction. you were right, dude, they are good.
we had the beat cafe last night at school, and i read the poem from the last post instead of my notebook - i've lost it somewhere. maybe i left it at school. i also sang iris by the ggd as mentioned above.
i'm also feeling quite proud of myself: i went for a run today during second block at school. it was only my second run ever since grade 10 p.e., so i'm really happy with myself. i hate running, but the exercise feels good. and the first run since grade 10 was also this year, about a month ago. hehe. ^-^; and i have a date with O. for a run on tuesday during second block - don't forget your running clothes, my friend! - and i'll be sure to remember my deodorant this time ^_^
oh and speaking of running and deodorant and such, how's the heat outside? that's right, it's been sunny! can you believe that? after all the rain we had, suddenly we're up at 27-29 degrees! it's awesome! and i was sweating like a pig while i was running. XD
anyways, i'm off for an early bedtime. toodles people. <3

· oh yeah and i think i want to start running. and dad don't you dare say i told you so. i wanna try parkour or however you spell it. you know, that free-running thing. the funny thing is, i do that every time i go to the park. we have a park full of awesome trails. and there's another trail place i can go to of which i know of.
· i love abby sciuto from NCIS.
· my tummy is rumbling. i'm going to go see if i can find something to eat.

yeah. i haven't posted. so bite me. i've been busy. gimme another couple weeks and then i can show you what i've been busy with, and then after that maybe i can post a little more regularly.

i have a digital SLR. very nice camera. it's my baby. literally (and yes, i'm using that word wrong on purpose. trust me, it bothers me too.). the only thing being that the pictures are like 8 megapixels each - making them werry werry yuge (yep, those are real words now. say them phonetically; it might help.). this in turn causes great space use on my computer, slowing everything down. fun. and then i have to burn them onto discs. and that's unpredictable and not very space-efficient. what wouldn't i give for one of them terabyte harddrives - the external ones.
i almost want one of those horrible point and shoots. the little teenager type ones. ew. i say ew because i know what one of the good ones can do. i have one of the good ones. but on the other hand, the smaller files would definitely be useful on occasion. i don't know.
anyways, i have to go to bed. but i'm still alive. and that's all i have to say for now. maybe later i'll come back and caps all the appropriate places - that's my OCD talking - but right now i'm too tired/lazy to do it.

I'm thinking about cutting my hair. I haven't quite decided what to do yet, though I'm definitely dying it black. Probably an Amelie haircut; I want to be her. I don't know if it will work with my hair though.

Biogeochemical Cycles, the Greenhouse Effect, & Ozone Layer Depletion
Carbon Cycle
Carbon
· resides in atmosphere as CO2
· is taken from atmosphere for use in photosynthesis
→ plants, cyanobacteria, algae
→ carbon from plants etc. passed up the food pyramid when plants are eaten by primary consumers, which are eaten by secondary consumers, and so on.
· is released back into atmosphere as CO2 by plants etc. as a byproduct of ACR
· is released back into atmosphere as CO2 by consumers who have eaten plants, or consumers who have eaten other consumers, as a byproduct of ACR
· is released back into atmosphere as CO2 when wood and fossil fuels are burned.
→ fossil fuels formed from dead plant matter (coal, eg.)
· is released back into atmosphere as CO2 when dead plant & animal matter is digested by detritivores (bacteria, eg.)
Nitrogen Cycle
Nitrogen
· resides in atmosphere as N2
· enters ecosystems as NH4+ and NO3- (only 5-10% of usable nitrogen) by the process of atmospheric deposition
→ dissolved in rain, or as fine dust
· enters ecosystems through nitrogen fixation (as ammonia – NH3)
→ done by specific bacteria – symbiotic (in/near roots of plants – legumes especially) & nonsymbiotic (free-living, in soil)
→ ammonia picks up an H+ to become ammonium (can be used by plants directly)
→ most ammonium is used by bacteria as an energy source through nitrification, which oxidizes it to nitrite, and then to nitrate
· can be fixed into nitrate during a lightning strike
· is taken up by plants as nitrate
· is consumed by animals via plants
· is returned to soil by the decomposition of dead plant and animal matter by detritivores
· can then undergo ammonification, which returns it to ammonium

Water Cycle

Phosphorus

→ weathering of rocks adds phosphorus to soil
· is taken up from soil by plants to be incorporated into organic molecules such as DNA
· is taken up from plants by consumers
· is returned to soil by the excretions of animals and the action of detritivores on dead plant and animal matter
· leaches into the water table
· accumulates in sediments in rivers & oceans
→ can be returned to ecosystems through geological uplifting etc.
→ rocks formed are weathered, which returns phosphorus to the soil

Combustion of fuels
· releases CO2 into the atmosphere
· CO2 is a known greenhouse gas
· therefore there is a risk that global warming may occur as a result of human manufacturing and burning of fuels
· CO2 concentration in 1958=316 ppm
· current CO2 concentration=387 ppm
· Note: increasing CO2 levels increases the rate at which most plants will grow – except C4 plants.
→ this could have a major effect on many environments/plant populations
· CO2 is used in photosynthesis, then given off during respiration
→ release of CO2 into the atmosphere
· Dead/decaying plant & animal matter become fossil fuels, which are burned, or plant material is burned directly as wood
→ release of CO2 into the atmosphere
Greenhouse Effect
· The atmosphere is formed of many gasses (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, among others)
· Greenhouse gasses = gasses in the atmosphere that absorb and emit infrared radiation (water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, and methane, eg.)
· The greenhouse effect is a change in the temperature of a moon or planet by the addition of an atmosphere which contains greenhouse gasses.
· The net effect of greenhouse gasses = to warm the surface of a planet or moon
· Levels of CO2 in human-caused emissions have caused concerns about global warming
→ the greenhouse effect, which keeps Earth warm, may cause overheating if there's too much CO2 in the atmosphere
Ozone Layer Depletion
· (O3)
· resides mainly in a layer in the stratosphere
· protects the surface of the Earth from harmful UV radiation
· the ozone layer is becoming thinner as a result of the release of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), which reduce the O3 to O2
→ CFCs can affect up to one hundred thousand molecules of O3 before their own degradation
→ even if all production of CFCs ceased immediately, they would continue to influence the ozone layer for another hundred years
· potential consequences of a thinning ozone layer include skin cancer, cataracts, negative effects on crops and communities of organisms

I was all going to call this, "my first post"... but then I figured that was too typical.

I don't know what the heck I'm doing blogging right now anyhow. I have another blog elsewhere - though the last time I used it was... three months ago? ... my excuse is, it's more creative writing type stuff than blog type stuff. So I don't know. Besides, I really ought to be working on a thing for Bio class that's due tomorrow. Yeah. I guess I'm an idiot.
