Working so hard.

Today marks the end of the first week working at my new job.

It’s a co-op job, i.e. co-operative with my university – meaning, I get university credit for it, and I get work experience for my resume, the company I work for gets cheap (that is, cheaper than a regular employee doing the same job) labour for a semester, so they don’t have to commit to hiring me forever, AND I get paid for my time. So it’s pretty much benefits on all sides.

Today I opened and closed my first ticket in the ticketing system – actually, my first ticket ever. Tickets, if you’re unfamiliar with them, are ways of reporting incidents (especially in helpdesk work) in such a manner that it’s easy to see whose the problem is, who’s reporting it, what the problem is, and whom it’s assigned to. You can assign it to someone specific, or to a group, and you can escalate a ticket by assigning it to someone higher up. Theoretically simple. A bit time-consuming in reality. But it gives management a good way to see statistics on what the IT department does and when. It probably took me longer to type in the ticket for the DVD drive replacement I did on Monday than to do the actual replacement, but hey. Just doing my .... job.

My coworkers are good fun – the two of them bicker like siblings. Sometimes it gets a little overwhelming, but I enjoy it most of the time – they do mean well, and there are some good jokes.

And then sometimes one has to deal with Users. Users are a special breed of human being. They don’t always do useful smart things, and in pursuit of making life easier for them, they don’t always make us do things that are useful or smart either. This I have learned after one short week.

But my day is almost over, and then I will go home and watch this week’s episodes of Castle and NCIS, because I went to Bible study last night instead of watching shows.

Toodles, all.

day 14- a picture of you and your family

i actually don't have a picture of just our family altogether. odd, considering all the squillions and bajillions of other miscellaneous photos i have, that i don't have one of our family. so here's one with me and my siblings and my grandparents and my cousins on my dad's side, no parents.

and one of the recently extended-even-more family on my mom's side.

day 3- a picture of you as a child

well now. i don't have too many digital photos of myself as a child.
one of the only ones i have available was already posted by jay, in HER day 3 post.

see? i'm the one with the thick-haired bob on the right.
we should hang out again sometime, you and i, jay.

this was several years later, during my two years in scotland. i'm the gawky one with braces. my sister lakebythepond is in the canada shirt to the left, and my brother nathan is the brown one to the right. the other two are my scottish cousins. i seem to have a penchant for awkward haircuts.

and this one was shortly before the last one, before i got my hair cut. my brother is on the far left, that's me with the stripey scarf, and my dad is on the far right. it's kind of hard to tell what we're doing, but it was snowing and we were rejoicing and trying to catch the flakes on our tongues.

it was christmas?

and so another christmas has come and gone - which means that my blog is approaching two years old now, come march. and it also means that i got christmas presents. the most exciting of which include:

and...

... the Dreamy Diana Lens at the Photojojo Store

as well as...

... and various other pieces, including, but not limited to, a burt's bees lip balm, two necklaces, a book about U2, various chocolates, two christmas activity books (mom's idea of a joke?), and a book about good decisions from one of my grandmothers.

altogether, it was a good christmas. lots of time with the family and stuff.

oh yeah and i have another wisdom tooth coming in. ugh.

she's going to take my pawn...

a small child of my acquaintance sat down this evening to play chess with a 30-year-old doll of her acquaintance named Albertina. it was an amusing sight.

so i was just messing around...

with my brother's wacom bamboo he got for christmas - and this is what i came up with. yes, i know, he only has two legs. but for a first time on a tablet, it's not bad, hey?
yes, i took screenshots so you can see the progression. enjoy.

oh siblings.

abby: the key to essays is:
a.) stating the obvious
b.) using strong language. [means strong vocab]

lizzi: ah, yes, i know about strong language.

nathan: [interrupts] you mean like "FUCK" and "SHIT". [loudly]

lizzi & abby: [laughter]

nathan: what??

mushrooms. yep.

my brother was looking for something to make for his lunch for school tomorrow.

i was scooping (read, wrestling) icecream into a bowl.

this is the conversation that ensued.

Brother: there's no sandwich meat.

Mom: use what we have.

brother finds liverwurst, starts spreading it on his sandwich.

Me: liverwurst is good with cream cheese, you know.

Brother: we have no cream cheese.

i go to the fridge, open the drawer. oh look. cream cheese.

Me: you mean this cream cheese? cos it doesn't look like mushrooms to me.
(i was just trying to pick something random that the cream cheese wasn't.)

i hand over the cream cheese and head back to my wrestling match with the ice cream.

Brother: you're ON mushrooms.

Me: no, i'm not. cos if i were, your face would be purple. and i'd be digging lava out of a flowerpot.

brother makes WTF face.
