So I went grocery shopping yesterday - and found some very very cheap beef. Beef heart, to be precise. I cooked some up for my lunch this morning. It's very dense and filling. I like, I very much like. I'll have to get more when this runs out. Especially given how cheap it is. Bonus: it's organ meat. Apparently that's supposed to be good for you, or something. So that was a good find.
As per my last post, I'm still having bad feelings about internet privacy and/or safety, especially since Groklaw closed this morning. According to a blog post on the site, they closed because Lavabit closed, and they closed because, they say, email is not safe any more. I don't want to be watched by anyone, but I don't know what to do about it. I could, in theory, drop off the grid - it's just incredibly hard to do that when computers are my job. It might be easier if I was, say, a park ranger or something, you know?
Ah well. For now, I'll stick around, and wait to see how bad it gets.
I went out and bought a new pair of Vibrams last week: pink and grey ones. Partially for the Radiant Run on Saturday, and partially because I really like Vibram shoes and I wanted another pair. I actually went running in them last night, and managed a 5.something km loop, in 45 minutes. I have been known to complain about cardio and how much I dislike it. Well, I still dislike it, but I did get to a point after about the 3rd or 4th km where I just didn't care whether I kept running or not. Weirdest feeling ever. Course now my calves hurt. Yep.
Probably going to go running again Wednesday, and maybe a very short one Thursday, but Friday is definitely resting day and then Saturday night is the run. See? I have a plan ... I think.
Also, Vibrams make a very predictable, though amusing, conversation piece. Anyone who hasn't seen them before will inevitably ask what the hell they are and whether or not they're comfortable and doesn't it feel weird to have things between your toes all the time?; those who have seen them before but don't own a pair themselves will ask similar questions and then throw in things like, how is it running with them, and don't you feel rocks when you walk, and what about glass?; and then the people who also own them will happily tell you how much they like theirs and how comfortable they are for anything and everything, like it's a shared secret, or something. It's funny.
I'm all alone at work today, same as yesterday - my boss is on holiday for two weeks, and my other co-worker comes back to work tomorrow. It's been really quiet, fortunately, although yesterday I had some software that would not behave itself, no matter what I did to it. So then tomorrow I'm not alone, Thursday I'm not alone, and then Friday I'm alone again, because my boss at the secondary site takes every other Friday off - as I think I've explained before. At any rate, this is the week of Lizzi Runs The Show. It's terrifying, right up until the part where it actually happens, at which point most of the day is spent sitting in a chair at a desk, browsing reddit and occasionally answering the phone.
Another thing that's been on my mind lately is cars. I've been contemplating how much more convenient (particularly for groceries) a car is than a bicycle. The one thing that's stopping me is how much of a money dump such a thing would be, although I've seen a good handful of reasonable cars for less than $800 on craigslist. But money (or lack thereof) means, I guess, that I'll have to wait. In the meantime I'm browsing craigslist anyhow.
Speaking of wheels, though: my ugly little black mountain bike finally gave up the ghost. It had so many problems that I couldn't handle the thought of putting more money into it. So I walked down to the thrift store and picked up a nice old 10-speed street bike. Narrow tires, ram's-horn handlebar; I'm a happy happy duck. I didn't even have to think; I walked into the store, looked over the rack, and I knew that that was the one. Nice and easy. I pulled the kickstand and the new brake pads from the old bike and put them on the new one, and she works like a charm. The thing that makes me the happiest is that the gears and chain don't squeak as vilely as the old one did.
Still watching Supernatural like a fiend - most recently finished 6.12, the episode after Sam gets his soul back. A friend of mine made the comment that he didn't like season 6 and up, because in 6 the writers "jump the shark" - and now that I'm watching it, I have to admit, they do rather jump it. 1-5 was a good arc, and they could have ended it there without too much trouble. 6, so far, has been the writers reaching for story. Sam and Dean between them were total facepalm-worthy idiots at least until 6.06, possibly right up to 6.09/6.10. 6.11 was possibly the smartest Dean's been since season 5, and was definitely the dumbest Sam's been, ever. Really, going after Bobby? Dumbass. Even without a soul, there's no excuse for that crap.
Anyways, two hours left in the day, and I think I want to go organise some cables. We have a metaphorical rat's nest happening over on one table, and it's bothering me.
So, toodles, all.
Post Script: I didn't realise how long this post was going to be, or how multi-topic'ed. My bad, and good job if you got all the way through it! Guess I'm a little ADD when I'm writing ... ?

Another Monday post. Sorry.
Well, here is Monday.
I keep falling asleep over my desk. Not good. Probably didn't get enough sleep over the weekend.
However, I feel rather accomplished: Friday night after work I cleaned my entire kitchen and bathroom, and then Saturday morning I cleaned my living room. Bedroom's next, if I'm still awake when I get home. I may need a nap first. But either way, it's nice to walk through a clean house. Here's hoping I can keep it that way.
Saturday I went hiking with a new friend. We sat in the sunshine for several hours, and I got thoroughly burnt on my arms and shoulders; I'm red as a lobster. It's been uncomfortable to sleep on, I tell you. The hike was glorious, though, and the view was amazing, and I went up in my awesome Vibram FiveFinger toe shoes, which was fun. First time I've hiked in them. I did slide a little bit down a hill at one point, and got a wee scrape on my hand, but otherwise they were good.
People have been drilling holes in the walls of my office at work - apparently cable needs to be put in place, so we have contractors coming in and getting concrete and drywall dust all over. At least they know to put plastic over top first; and they also vacuum up after themselves, which is nice I have to say, though the concrete drilling is very very noisy.
Side comment: I have also started re-reading Pride and Prejudice for my own edification and amusement - the improvement of the mind by extensive reading, you know.
And now I'm counting down the last half-hour before I get to go home and have a proper nap: thirty, twenty-nine, twenty-eight, twenty-muffin, twenty-orange, monkey, shoe, umbrella, fork, here we go 'round the mulberry bush...
Toodles all, I'm going to sleep now...

It's been a while?
And by a while, I mean two days. Two whole days without a blog from me. Oh dear, however did you survive? (says the girl who didn't blog for an entire eight-month stretch; yes, I'm laughing at myself.)
My excuse is, the last two days were legitimately busy at work. I was running around dealing with printers and monitors and PS2-type keyboards that may or may not have had a sticky key that was causing the computer to reboot constantly and it doesn't matter anyway because I just stuck a USB keyboard on the desk, plugged it in, and it magically worked. Who knows. I wiped a handful of computers, imaged a handful of computers, and would have ghosted a new colour photocopier but the firmware was newer than the one it was replacing, so I had to put settings in by hand.
I won't judge you if you only understand some of that. I won't even judge you if you don't understand any of that. I am just so nice and non-judgey.
Wednesday I got paid, at last, and I even got to keep some of it for myself. It was nice to finally buy groceries without limiting myself to $20 for a week's worth. Those who know of my paleolithic eating habits will know how bothered I was at having to eat KD and Mr Noodles simply because they're cheap. I bought a bag of breakfasty stuff to try, because why not, and laughed at it - it's ground flaxseed, nothing else, labelled PowerFlax in big red letters, and touted as being sponsors of the BC Lions. Damned Manly Breakfast, I call it, and texture-wise it's like cream of wheat and egg whites had a baby; but it's not bad. For groceries, I still eventually have to pick up some beef and bacon.
I am also tempted, for meat, to go rabbit hunting with my dad, he with his WristRocket and me with Gwenny.
Whoa. Hold up. I haven't mentioned Gwenny on my blog, have I? She got shared on Instagram and Facebook, but she happened during the eight-month Dark Night Of The Blog. The story is, I was researching stuff for fun and profit, and I happened to be researching bows. Like, the kind you shoot. And I researched, and researched, as I do, and I said to myself after the fourth hour, "I can do this."
So I did. I bought a long-enough piece of hickory to even lop off a 12" piece and glue it on the middle for a handle riser; I shaped, sanded, and tillered it, all in my living room; and I bought a couple small spools of B50 Dacron and made a white/black bowstring. All in all, took around 2-3 days. She pulls around 35lbs, which is not bad for a first bow, and I regularly take it into the backyard and kill a particular stump sitting there. I may yet back her with linen or silk cos that will keep her from exploding if she breaks, but for now I'm content.
Anyways, I might take her out and shoot rabbits one Saturday morning. For Science. Yep.
Last night was fun too, but in a less fun way than groceries. My bike's back tire has been flat for the last week and a half or so, but Poor Me has had no money to get a new inner tube, so I've just been hoofing it everywhere. So last night I hoofed it to Canadian Tire to get said new tube, and didn't think beforehand about checking the size I needed. Bought a size too big. But of course, because tires and whatnot are all measured in diameter, not circumference, one inch's size difference in the diameter means it's actually 3.1415926 inches longer around. The end result being, the inner tube was too long to fit inside the tire. So I now have to exchange it for the correct size. I was mad though; it buggered up my plans for the evening, which were, namely, to buy myself a beer and go hang out at my parents' house because bicycle.
And this morning I had an odd dream: I had black corkscrew-curly hair that I had to brush flat before it would behave itself, and the tenants upstairs were digging holes in the walls of, and otherwise dismantling, my bathroom - they said there was a fly behind the wall and they had to get it out because it was bothering them. Then I had my youngest sister over and we went for a walk and passed some people I knew, but they didn't recognise me, and I blame the sunglasses I was wearing. Anyways.
So that brings me, with a terrible and fully unrelated segue, to my final thoughts of the day: I was interested, when I was looking at my blog stats (because I don't know about you, but I am intrigued by the blog visits/views/viewer statistics), to see that my feministic rant from last week is actually among the top five viewed posts on my blog, out of every post I've ever written here. The other four are my comments on pretty boys, on things I smelled one day, on the TV shows I like (though Doctor Who ought to now be at the top of that list), and (oh, the memories) on being a fitting room attendant. I don't know why I find that fascinating, but I do. Partly because people prefer to read particular things over other things, perhaps. At any rate, I'm glad you people appreciated my rant as much as you seem to have. I know one friend said I was her hero as a result of that post, which I am really not sure I deserve, but I'm definitely rather flattered by.
That's it. Toodles!

So that went surprisingly well, I guess
Remember how I mentioned that my phone got left in the rain for several hours, and then was acting erratic yesterday?
Well, it continued to act erratic (although I suppose it was slightly better after the bowl of rice) - including the power/sleep button not working properly, and just other generally unusual and improper behaviours - most of yesterday evening and then all day today.
So then when I got home from work and it wouldn't charge, I got fed up and said, "Phone, I'm going to expose your guts now."
And that's what I did. I took my sonic screwdriver (because I'm cool like that), removed the back of the phone, and detached the circuit board from the front.
I wiped off the bits that looked like they might possibly still be damp, and put the whole lot back together.
Lo and behold, the power button works properly, somehow, but now the speaker isn't working - which means if my phone rings, I can't hear it. At all. Even though that was one thing that worked fine even after the rain incident.
What do I do but take it all apart again, cos clearly I didn't put it back together properly. Except I did put it back properly the first time; there was no reason for it not to be working. Put it all back a second time.
I turned it on. Now the speaker's not working and the power button's gone screwy again, same as before the surgery. Bah!
Take it apart for a third try, then put it back again.
Crossing my fingers, I turn it on for the third time.
Everything works. What the actual fuck. I changed exactly nothing between the first time I took it apart, and the third time I put it back together, and yet somehow, I broke it worse and then fixed it. Don't ask me.
At any rate, I have a working phone again, after three of what I might just call autopsies. Yay.
And that's my update. Toodles!

In the interim ...
I realise I haven't posted in a couple of days. There are a few reasons for this.
1. Monday was a holiday. I did dick-all. Including not blogging. It was marvelous and rather restful.
2. Tuesday I just didn't get around to it.
3. I have one or two long and different sorts of blog post planned, and they're currently percolating in my head. This started because of something I sat through on Sunday, and continued because of a conversation I had with a friend last night over facebook. They'll be a rather different flavour from my usual sorts of blog posts, but they're not ready, so it may be next week before they properly emerge. But they're one more reason I haven't posted yet.
Oh yes, and dear lord - the Doctor Who finale was MARVELLOUS, but damn you, Moffat, and your cliffhanging ways. I don't even.
I watched it at 2.00 Sunday morning after my friend dropped me off - she texted me at 11.30pm wanting to drive to White Rock and wanting company (you should really stop ingesting caffeine that late, dear...). Got to bed at 3. Watched it again with my brother Sunday afternoon. And another friend is coming over Saturday morning to watch it with me before D&D. Good thing I enjoyed the episode - but the suspense hits all over again, every time, and then I want November to be here already. Damn it, Moffat. Why.
Anyway, that's it for today. Look for a couple of longer posts in the near future.
Toodles.

Another Thursday.
Good morning.
I have nothing to say today. Nothing exciting or new happened between this time yesterday and now, but I'll give a short summary just because I can.
Yesterday I was at work at 8 am. I opened and closed three tickets, and I sat at a desk. I ate my lunch and went for a walk with my co-workers after lunch. At four, I went home.
At home I watched Monday's episode of Castle, and Tuesday's episode of NCIS (on which topic, by the way: WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING?!?), and I may have eaten some dinner. I actually legitimately don't remember. That's odd.
At 7.30, I left my house and did some quickie grocery shopping. Got home by 9, and spent another forty-five minutes or so wandering the series of tubes. Then I went to bed.
My alarm went off at 6.15, and I got up and did stuff and then went to work. At about 8 I submitted my timesheet for my first week of work, and since then I've been sitting at my desk browsing reddit. It's very exciting.
Oh, I guess one thing did happen: Hyperbole and a Half has returned to her blog this morning after about eighteen months away. It's good to read her stuff again. If you've never heard of her, she's the brilliant originator of "ALL THE THINGS".
In other "news", I'm completely obsessed with my Vibram FiveFinger shoes - I wear them everywhere I can get away with wearing them. Also, I require tea. Also, welcome to near-stream-of-consciousness writing, because I'm bored and I wish to write, but have no clue what to write about specifically. Hence the very short and uninteresting summary of Yesterday through to Today.
I suppose I could post this and go do something else, but frankly, Something Else will probably consist of Reddit or Minesweeper, both of whose depths I have plumbed enough for one week, so I'd honestly rather be inflicting Relentless and Unceasing Blog upon you all. Ergh, that sounds like a disease...
So. Relentless and Unceasing.
Ironically, I have now run out of things to say.
Signing off.

Bombardments
It's been a while.
I could make excuses. I could say how busy I've been. I could, and I could, and I could...
But I think mostly it's because I'm unsure about how best to come back. Is it awkward, after eight months, to just jump back in and say, "Hey guys, it's me again, let me bombard you with my life and thoughts and stuff and things, same as I did ... a whole year ago!"?
Let's pretend, for the sake of argument, that people leaving and coming back without warning is normal and not awkward in the slightest.
So therefore, if that's the case, you may, if you wish, sit back with a nice cup of Tea Earl Grey Hot, and prepare yourself for a nice, calming, chilled-out:
"HEY GUYS, IT'S ME AGAIN, LET ME BOMBARD YOU WITH MY LIFE AND THOUGHTS AND STUFF AND THINGS, SAME AS I DID A WHOLE YEAR AGO."
Following that theme, in recent news (so that I don't alarm you unduly with references to things that happened that you didn't previously know about):
But don't worry, you'll be hearing from me again, hopefully in reasonably short order.
Toodles!

- I sang backing vocals with a symphonic metal band for two live shows (one in December, one in April) and it was fantastic: http://www.leahthemusic.com/
- I started playing Pathfinder, the D&D-like role-playing game. I play in two campaigns: one, as a skill-monkey half-elf rogue/ranger who speaks in a Scottish accent - and the other, as a dumb-as-a-post half-orc barbarian named Thump whose two obsessions are things that are Shiny, and things that can be thumped, such as goblins.
- (I'm surprised it took me this long to discover role-playing games - SO MUCH FUN.)
- I just finished my second year at university studying Computer Information Systems, and I've just started my second term as President of the Computer Information Systems Student Association. I've also just started my first Co-op work term: I get school credit for it, and work experience in my field, AND I get paid for it, all of which make me reasonably happy.
- I got a new tattoo in April, bringing my total tattoos up to four, if you count the teensy stick-and-poke I did on my own hip four years ago. The new one is on the inside of my bicep, is in Latin, and says: "Sed et si monti huic dixeritis: Tolle et jacta te in mare, fiet." Translated: "But if you say to this mountain: Get up and cast yourself into the sea, it will be done." Found in Matthew 21:21, for the curious.
- I'm still at my wonderful little basement suite, and I couldn't be happier with where I'm living. Even the occasional noise of the tenants upstairs doesn't bother me.
- I've completely caught up on Doctor Who, at last, and I've been watching the current episodes as they come out, which has been great fun. I do love Clara with the Doctor. They have such great chemistry.
- Speaking of TV shows, I've been watching NCIS and Castle as per usual, but on my dad's recommendation I've just started a new one, it's called Continuum. A cop from 2077 accidentally gets dumped into Vancouver in 2012 along with a terrorist group called Liber8. It's pretty good so far, but I'm only about halfway through the first season still.
But don't worry, you'll be hearing from me again, hopefully in reasonably short order.
Toodles!

after months of silence...
i know, it's been a while since i ... put finger to keyboard? ... well, blogged, anyway.
some of those months of silence are attributable to school, both university-type and high-school-type, and some are attributable to finding a job (during which i was also doing the high-school-type school). but most of the time, i think, it was the fault of my own laziness that i didn't write anything - but laziness doesn't seem the right word either. sometimes i would think of something i could blog about, but then it seemed awkward coming back as if no empty space had happened in between. and sometimes i would actually sit down to write, and then nothing would come out. but the worst, what happened to me most often, is when i had so much to say that i just couldn't, because as soon as i would start writing or typing or WHATEVER, that it would all come spilling out like one of those cartoon closets, where everything is jampacked up to the ceiling - you just touch one thing and ALL the things come down on you... kind of like that paragraph of brain vomit that totally just happened.
so after all that brainmush, here i am.
big changes: i found a basement suite. all my own. no roommates. so my bedroom at my parents' house is now in a state of boxy upheaval as i try to pack between the hours that i work.
oh yes, and i have a job. timmy ho's again. yeah.
my hair is short, and pink, and later i'll post a picture, maybe. i suspect most of my more regular readership (if there is any of those out there) actually knows me and is friends with me on facebook, but for the ones that aren't, yes, that's what i did to my hair.
changed my diet - and am eating paleo now. the funny looks i get when i say i'm not eating any grains or beans or sugar, are just fantastic, and they make it totally worth it. it can be hard, and hey, i have my cheat days same as anyone else does, but i love paleo. i mean, bacon every day if i want it. how can that be bad?
got a new tattoo, too - but again, old news to the people who are on facebook.
accomplishments: finished math 12 - had to do four units in a week and a half, while i was working, so i was cramming like crazy. not sure i remember most of it, but i got 84.27% at the end of the whole thing - EXCEPT, when i asked them to fax my mark to the university (so i could use math 12 as a prerequisite for a class), the record the university now has is 86%. so i got a narrow A out of it, which i really shouldn't have, nor do i know how it happened. but i'm not complaining!
i'm also determined that when september arrives and i have time (time? what? work + school + homework + CISSA? time?) and i can get to the gym, i'm starting the workouts outlined in The New Rules of Lifting For Women. weightlifting wins. waaaaay more fun than running.
i'm definitely excited about having my own place again - but i'm also a bit nervous, because it'll actually be my own. no roommate. so i need to get some basics. like cutlery and plates and glasses for the kitchen. at my shared apartment, we used all her dishes for eating off of. all the cooking stuff was mine, but the eating stuff was all hers.
i have to get that and other things, like a broom, and laundry soap, and dish soap, and toilet paper, and a shelving/hanging unit (cos my bedroom doesn't have a closet)... all that and i still don't have my student loan for the next semester...
and that's all i got for now. let's see if i can keep up on this for a while.

3/14 ...
march 14th is Pi Day! go eat piiiiiiiie.
[i'm such a geek.]
so i did the thirty day challenge - successfully, i might add, all 30 in a row with only one or two late posts. but now i don't know what to do with myself.
i have no poems floating around in my head at the moment.
i have no awesome photos to share.
and nothing super-duper interesting has happened lately.
besides the two random customers (both guys - coincidence? mmm probably not.) that have given me their phone numbers. THAT'S slightly disturbing. particularly as one of them is - well - probably as old as my dad. and i likely WON'T be calling him. he's a customer. that alone makes it weird. ah well.
the thing is, most of my day is centered around SLEEP. i spend all day sleeping, and all night working. my evening is mostly cooking.
so there's not much to tell, mostly.
i have the odd moment - like the day my coworker went to the drivethru window and informed the waiting customer that he had just finished devouring a soul, and that it tasted like lemon - but mostly my life is sleep.
speaking of which - it's approximately bedtime.
also - i must go shopping soon. maybe tomorrow. the pantry's looking bare.

some saturday musings
so i figure i ought to chuckle at the irony of this - i start to get annoyed when blogs i follow don't post for a while .... and then i sit and don't post either.
so i guess i'll subject you all to another blurb about me!
i think i must be a real vampire. night shift (also known, appropriately enough, as the "graveyard" shift), i have discovered, suits me down to the ground. my sleeping pattern adjusted just fine, i like the flexibility of having my mornings open, and yeah. it works for me.
i've actually found myself wondering why people are out so early in the morning - and then realising it's nine o'clock pm.
speaking of vampirishness - i am kind of sort of leaning towards the possibility of maybe, just maybe ... building myself a coffin-shaped bed? cos it would be epic win and it would make me happy to the bottom of my little black gothy heart. so there.
as it is, i am most definitely putting black fabricky curtainy drapeyness in my new room (that i'm moving into on the 29th - YEAH) - especially if i stay on graveyards, imma need something to block light so i can sleep. particularly in summer.
and speaking of people who sleep in coffins, i decided i needed to watch all the old NCIS seasons that i hadn't watched before (because i think i started with season 5 or 6, i'm not quite sure which) so i have a lot to catch up on. and Abby Sciuto is still my favourite character ever.
... she sleeps in a coffin.
in case you hadn't made the connection.
oh and i acquired a brown coat.... thrift stores ftw. now i too can be a Space Pirate.
... now i just need to get my Jayne hat back. have you fixed it yet, mom?
and i'm also rapidly approaching my 200th post - and in a couple months' time, two years on this blog.
anyhow. think that's about it for now.
toodles, all.

this WAS going to be a poem, but i changed my mind.
so just a quick update.
psalm 91 had a show in vancouver on saturday, it went pretty well, we get a video and an EP out of it, so that's cool.
i'm currently in a multitude of dilemmas, including one about where i'm going to live, and one about what i'm going to take at school, and one about what i'm going to do for a job, and one about what i'm going to do for transport (car???? driver's licence?????????? ehhhhh..... ), and the list goes on. so yeah.
jeff and i are coming up to one year dating, in a week - woot! love you jeff!
also, i got a new hole through my face on wednesday last week - i have a lip ring, bottom right. i WILL post pictures as soon as i can get my camera hooked up to a computer. have patience.
and yeah, i think that's about it for now.
love you all.

so. um. news in the life of lizzi.
well. let me see.
i booked my road test yesterday, it's on monday, at 2.30 in the afternoon, and i'm nervous as hell; but if i pass first time, it means i can finally drive by myself! yes! that would make me so happy.
have been applying for jobs all over the place - tim horton's, petcetera, superstore, staples, warehouse 1, the list goes on. called some places back just five minutes ago, and man do i ever hate making phone calls!! i get all shaky and nervous. not so good. but at least i kept from saying anything completely dumb - win!
and yeah i think that's about it. i'm going to go see one of my teachers from school playing music at a cafe tonight, i think - good old mr taylor. "whatcha talkin' 'bout, willis?" :P

seven days
i had a week. it was weekish. with, you know, days of the week.
let's see. went to choir on monday; had people over for dinner on tuesday; saw jeff on sunday, tuesday, and thursday - i could get used to that; saw alice in wonderland (3D!!!) on sunday and wednesday; went on a walk to the park and took photos on wednesday; i applied for a job on thursday; oh yeah and i have to do my taxes tonight.
fun part about THAT is, i was supposed to sit on the phone with revenue canada for an unspecified but definitely long period of time to get my access code so i can do my taxes online - EXCEPT that ....
.... you're not allowed to do it online if it's the first time ever doing taxes.
which, imo, is rather retarded.
so now i have to do the paper version. woot.
and soy-wax candles leak vegetable oil. or something. cos you needed to know.

short update
so i apologise that i've been so quiet on the blogging front lately - not much has been going on on this side of the interwebs, besides a lot of gratuitous and abortive corset drafting.
oh yeah and i got to see a pair of russian ice dancers practicing at a local rec centre.
and i bought some fabric secondhand today, some butter-yellow asian brocade with carps on it, and a giant piece of reddish cotton with a big weave, like linen.
so yeah. that's about it for me.

a couple of days in the life of lizzi.
so i'm feeling quite good about myself - yesterday at work i caught a couple of oddities.
the first one was a pair of shoes, where the coding didn't match the labelled price - someone had put a different label over top of the original. i think the original said 49.99, and the stuck-on-top label said 29.99. and i caught it. and apparently the girl buying the shoes had been an employee who was fired a few years ago for stealing. i'm not accusing her - but it did look suspicious, no?
the second one was a purse - and again the coding didn't match. the tag on it said 29.99 - but the purse was actually worth 150. and i caught that one too. but the poor lady trying to buy it - she was sad cos it was more than she thought it was. and i'm certain it wasn't her fault for that one. ... you can tell.
and then today i caught a couple more! ... i win!
the first one was a pair of boots - the right foot was an 8, the left was 8½. the customer wanted the 8's. yay me for checking!
the second one was a painting - the price tag said 69.99 - the coding said it was actually worth 169.99. the customers decided that was too expensive.
but just goes to show, girls and boys, always check the coding. :)
oh yes and yesterday there were two different customers who attempted to pay with bad visas - one of them for sure was tampered with.
and they think they can get away with it.
some people are so stupid. oh well, they give me something to talk about :P
and today there was a guy with the most fantastic moustache ever. and another guy who was very loud but was very funny, kept cracking jokes at me - it was awesome.

...oh yeah and it's the first of october. um.
I did kind of promise gothy/halloweeny photos, didn't i.
well, here's the first installment of cemetery filler, on day 30 of the countdown to halloween <3

you know, i've decided - i like blogging.
it's fun.
so i was at work yesterday - the last day of orientation, woot. orientation's so boring - anyways. for the last half hour, they had us sorting shoes. which you'd think would be boring, but there was four of us madly rushing around pairing up shoes and making them tidy, and we managed to sort four racks' worth, and it was really kind of fun. i am not a tidy person (at least, my room's not) but i do like organising things. a lot. one of my favourite places to be is sitting in an office sharpening pencils. no joke.
and i now have an eight-hour shift tomorrow doing cash training. god help me. i've never done cashier duty ever ever before. i'm going to be so confused. so please, if you go through winners between 2 and closing time, and you go through my register, BE PATIENT WITH ME! pretty please?
and i miss my man - i haven't seen him since the twenty-second of august.
happy first of september.
um. yeah. i think that's it. oh yeah i've been working on a canvas corset, single-layer, with hand-stitched eyelets. and i am almost done! 9 left out of 34 eyelets. oh yeah. but it's SO BORING, like you would not believe.
okay. toodles.

i could really use a back massage. i think my shoulders are too tense.
So i guess it's about time for an update; i haven't blogged in a while.
first off, i now has a job - i'm working at winners. this is very exciting. because, of course, i've never had a real job before. so i get to learn the ropes and such at last.
[sigh] my happygolucky teenage days are almost over... what a real shame. i must now assume a responsible posture, careful attitude, and a hopeless demeanor, and wear my corsets UNDER my clothes. fml.
and i has a boyfriend - but you knew about that one already, if you've been reading my blog for any decent length of time. but i can't help adding him into this post, because it's a life update post. and he's in my life. so if you don't want to hear about him anymore, you'll just have to suck it up and read on. or stop reading. either way, i don't care. i mean, i would rather you stuck around and read my blog [the more readers, the better, right?] but if you really want to leave, you can. of course, that begs the question, why would you really want to leave? i'm charming, witty, beautiful, and oh-so-smart! - and clearly, full of myself. [awkward silence] ... no. i'm kidding. but do please stick around. i like to be read.
i SERIOUSLY gothed up for church yesterday - spiked my hair, did black eyeliner, black lips, black tanktop-corset-skirt combo, along with my burgundy Docs and my black fishnet arm-thingers, and my coffin-shaped backpack... now this is church, mind you. god and worship and tithe and all. ... but does anyone blink an eye? - N0, not a chance! they say how much they like my outfit, is what they do! i'm not a social outcast for being different, and it's awesome! i seriously fucking love my church, and my God! - and yes, i know swearing is frowned upon by christians everywhere, but I say, STFU. because God likes it best when we're honest. and when i swear, i'm honestly saying exactly what i mean. i don't throw in an f-word every second word, just when i'm in the middle of some extreme emotion. so there. and it's true. i fucking love God. cos he's just amazing.
.... aaaand moving right along.
my phone is dying on me by inches; the vibrate function's almost completely gone, and sometimes it makes really funny buzzy noises instead of actually buzzing the phone itself, and sometimes it cuts out altogether. and today when i was trying to send a text to my bf, it shut itself off randomly. i was like, WTF?!?! because it shouldn't be doing that. however, it IS about three years old now. so i guess it's not that unusual.
facebook made me stay off it for about six hours this evening, too. i was pissed. it said i couldn't access my account because of site maintenance. if you ask me, i say that's BS-speak for, "there's something wrong but we don't know how to fix it in five minutes or less. so we're going to try to work it out before you notice something's wrong, and when you do notice, we'll do our best to make it look like yours isn't the only one that there's something going wrong with." but now i'm happily back onfacecrack facebook. so.
um - yeah. i guess that's about it. that was a pretty long post. kudos if you made it all the way through. and <3 <3 <3 to my boyfriend :)

- and yes, i know swearing is frowned upon by christians everywhere, but I say, STFU. because God likes it best when we're honest. and when i swear, i'm honestly saying exactly what i mean. i don't throw in an f-word every second word, just when i'm in the middle of some extreme emotion. so there. and it's true. i fucking love God. cos he's just amazing.
.... aaaand moving right along.
my phone is dying on me by inches; the vibrate function's almost completely gone, and sometimes it makes really funny buzzy noises instead of actually buzzing the phone itself, and sometimes it cuts out altogether. and today when i was trying to send a text to my bf, it shut itself off randomly. i was like, WTF?!?! because it shouldn't be doing that. however, it IS about three years old now. so i guess it's not that unusual.
facebook made me stay off it for about six hours this evening, too. i was pissed. it said i couldn't access my account because of site maintenance. if you ask me, i say that's BS-speak for, "there's something wrong but we don't know how to fix it in five minutes or less. so we're going to try to work it out before you notice something's wrong, and when you do notice, we'll do our best to make it look like yours isn't the only one that there's something going wrong with." but now i'm happily back on

life. and other life.
oh man this is surreal. i am now a bona fide youth leader. scary. i've been given the mentoring/counselling aspect of the leadership - perfect for me, the inquisitive-curious-bossy-mama-stick-my-nose-in-where-it-don't-belong-type, because i always want to hear about everyone's lives and try to help them get it in order (olivia knows all about that, hey? counselling sessions in the art room... lol good times). this has been a long time coming. for a while there i was really really grumpy about it, i was all in an entitlement space. long story. anyways, i got over that, and then it jumped out at me. so i'm all over the moon at the moment, i've even been talking to my first victim - i mean mentoree - this afternoon. hehe. i'm certainly enjoying myself - that is, i'm enjoying the position, not that i'm enjoying the misfortunes/problems/issues of other people. unfortunately, i can't go to the leaders' meeting on saturday, because i'm going to a party. which leads me to my next paragraph.
i've been invited to an expendable characters party. you know, like the red-shirts in star trek, or soldiers, or vampires' victims - people who die fairly early. i happen to be going as a harry potter character - some witch or other who dies at the end of the seventh book during the big fight. i don't even have a name, i'm so unimportant. but i have a great costume. thanks to sanne, the owner of venus&mars - look them up. which leads me to my next paragraph.
sanne gave me five or six giant big bags of fabric scraps - mostly velvets, but some plaids, some small pieces of dupioni silk, some tapestry-type fabric, some chiffon... all kinds of stuff! it was thrilling looking through it. i even used some of it for the costume and for the present for the party as mentioned above. thank you so so much, sanne!
and my mom is still pressuring me to get a job. terry says i should ask god for one to fall in my lap, cos that would be the job that would be most suited to me and my needs right now. but anyhow.
that's life, as it is for me right now.
dawn take you all and be stone to you.
(kudos to the first person to tell me where this quote's from. and no googling.)

... to continue from the last post....
i sent off a couple of emails to craigslist job offers - one's a 1am-5am janitor job with $19 an hour, and the other's a 10hours/week editor job (telecommuting) in vancouver. so we'll see what comes of that. i might wind up having like three separate part time jobs. won't that be fun. heh. not.
so yeah. that's my day.
